Past Community Events:

October 19 – For the third year in a row, Mainspring joined Athletes for Kids to help with their Beneath the Same Sky auction.

Athletes for Kids is a great organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of children who have disabilities and special needs, and the high school athletes who mentor them. AFK believes that modeling acceptance, inclusion, and respect of all individuals transforms and strengthens our communities.

September 15 – For United Way Day of Caring, Mainspring volunteered at Acres of Diamonds in Duvall.

Acres is part of a larger response to the growing problem of women and children living in poverty in Western Washington. About half of the 20,000 homeless in Washington every night are families with children, with no safe place to lay their head, and little hope of breaking free from the entanglements that got them there. It is against these tremendous odds that Acres offers hope to women and children who find the courage to try to change their destiny. They serve families who are predominantly victims of domestic violence or substance abuse, and lifelong poverty.

At this year’s Day of Caring, we helped Acres of Diamonds with cleaning of the campus (painting, organizing, and yard work) and additional duties, weather permitting.

June 2 – Just another fun-filled day, working with one of our favorite organizations, Kindering. Anna, Tia, and Shanel volunteered at the Parent Child Home Program (PCHP) graduation and learning about this program that teaches families in need about the importance of early education. PCHP is an intensive school readiness program for children ages 2 to 4 and their parents. We learned that trained home visitors demonstrate important parenting skills, positive verbal interaction, and play in order to enhance their child's development.

May 1 – May 31 - Second Annual Mother's Day Diaper Baby Food and Baby Formula Drive Benefitting Eastside Baby Corner

On Friday, Tia Sanidad, Carri Young, Anna Shea, Joann Byerly, and Shanel Konzelman volunteered their time to help clients shop for food, organized goods, and spoke with the leadership team about the need for help in the community. We will definitely be back to help out again. Please be on the lookout for opportunities to join in volunteering with your Mainspring team.

December 16 – Established in 1909, Childhaven has been a safe and caring place for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Today, their trailblazing childhood trauma treatment program heals the youngest survivors of abuse and neglect and prepares them for success in school and in life. And by improving parenting skills and strengthening relationships, Childhaven's mission is to break the cycle of abuse and neglect and lay the foundation for generations of safe and nurturing families. Mainspring will be assisting with setting up an organized shopping experience for families in need.

October 27 – Athletes for Kids is a youth mentoring program that serves children in 1st-9th grades who have special needs and disabilities of all kinds. These children are matched with high school athletes in a one-to-one mentoring relationship to learn from each other and positively impact each other's lives. Mainspring will be assisting for the second year with their annual auction by checking-in guests, passing out bidding packets, and acting as runners with the live auction. www.athletesforkids.org
